Troubleshooting
- Black Screen? Check if your laptop has a physical privacy shutter or a key (like F8 or F10) that disables the camera.
- "Another app is using camera"? Close Zoom, Teams, Discord, or any other app that might be hogging the video feed.
- Dark Image? Ensure you have adequate lighting. Webcams struggle in low light and will reduce frame rate to compensate.
Common Webcam Problems
Why is my webcam quality blurry?
Blurry video is usually caused by a dirty lens or poor focus. Gently wipe the lens with a microfiber cloth. If your webcam has a manual focus ring (common on external Logitech cams), try rotating it. Also, poor lighting causes "digital noise" (grain), which looks like blur.
My camera is on but I can't see myself
If the "Start" button worked but you see black, verify your browser permissions. Click the lock icon 🔒 next to the URL address and ensure "Camera" is set to "Allow".
On MacOS, also check System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
How do I test my webcam frame rate (FPS)?
Visually, wave your hand quickly in front of the camera. If you see excessive motion blur or the video stutters, your FPS is likely low (below 30fps). This happens often in dark rooms because the camera keeps the shutter open longer to capture light.
Mirroring Explained
By default, most webcam software mirrors the image (like looking in a mirror) because it feels more natural. However, the raw feed sent to others (Zoom/Skype) is usually NOT mirrored. Use the "Flip / Mirror" button above to check both views.
